Nerone rice

It belongs to superfine commodity group, japonica species group, and has small caryopsis with strong characteristic aroma.
The black rice comes from China but nowadays it’s cultivated in special areas of Po Valley.
It is  wholegrain rice, with a pleasant smell.  During the cooking, which takes 40 minutes, it emits special sandal and newly-baked bread smell.
Black color is a rare feature and completly natural. According to legend, in the past Chinese farmers cultivated this rice only for emperor and his court who appreciated it for its nutritional properties and aphrodisiacs. Therefore the rice was called the forbidden.
It’s perfect boiled and flavoured with olive oil or butter, or as a side dish for meat or fish.
